Race Update

DART / nuun NW Kayaks arrived at the Baja cars just behind Team Yoga Slackers.  Both had run out of water on the hot desert trekking leg and all were covered with white salty sweat.  Everybody was happy to jump in the Baja Cars for a thrilling ride to the mouth of the Canyon Cajon and the start of the course’s longest trek section.  DART/nuun NW Kayaks was the first to leave and head up the canyon, the only team to leave with a bit of light still remaining.  The Yoga Slackers were quick to follow and they were looking fresh and ready for the challenge ahead.

In a bit of a surprise, Team Feed the Machine (Christian, Sylvie and Andy) arrived in third place.  They also had run low on water in the trek, but seemed replenished after a few minutes refueling in the TA.  Andy was packing plenty of food and the team was joking and enjoying themselves in the transition.  Andy promised to ride Sylvie on his back up the most difficult parts of the canyon.

Covered in dried salty sweat, Mikael Lindnord of Sweden, Team Extreme-sports.dk asked jokingly when it was going to get hot and he compared the beautiful desert of San Felipe to the climate of Sweden.

Team El Rey Azul was the last team to arrive at the Baja Cars, we found them as they trotted down the road toward the Baja Car transition.  They were all smiles and seemed to be quite pleased with themselves, maybe they were just happy to be walking under the stars instead of under the bright sun.

Paul, Andy got a kick out of hearing my impression of you on the radio: “Feed the Machine?? No, that can’t be right. Check that please. Feed the Machine…ok, well maybe the Spots aren’t working.”
