DISCIPLINES

Paddleboarding
While new to the sport of AR, paddle boarding is likely the farthest thing from a new sport. Paddleboards have been used for hundreds of years by both the early Hawaiians and the ancient Polynesians to transport people and supplies from one island to the next.

Great news for athletes and we think great news for the sport of paddleboarding and adventure racing. Kayaking
The Pacific Ocean and Sea of Cortez will provide some seriously challenging waters to navigate both day and night. There will be two kayak sections: Once again, teams will be required to provide their own boats. Kites and sails will be permitted. Experience in surf entry/exit is very important. Come early and practice your skills on the beaches of Baja.

Trekking/Canyoneering
The terrain of Baja California will present an intriguing and exciting trek and canyoneering course that will demand the utmost from teams in terms of navigation and foot travel. Teams will need to be brave and skilled in moving across difficult terrain as Mexico's Sierra Nevadas have some of the most dramatic mountain terrain in all of North America. Maps will be 1:50,000 and foot travel will entail many cross-country routes as few trails and roads exist in the high mountains. The course will have optional rope sections demanding teams to consider critical route selection with many options. Compared to the '05 event, the canyoneering sections will be more majestic and involve more ropes and staff with considerably more water involved. STUNNING Canyons, like nothing we've ever seen anywhere in the world. You'll see.

Mountain Biking
There is little to hide about the bike course of Baja Travesia. Beautiful small towns and ranches will be visited while biking the course. Climbing will be in order, and teams will be rewarded with single track riding and multiple route selections.

Desert Auto Rally
The sport has put Baja California on the map. The Baja 1000 puts drivers, navigators and cars to the ultimate test. And now the Baja Travesia incorporates the Ultra Endurance Car Rally into international expedition racing. Get ready for this truly unique portion of the event as teams cross the barren landscape of the Baja Desert in Baja race vehicles. Surely a discipline to get every team member's heart pumping. Racers will navigate an open/rail vehicle driven by car's owner, through barren desert. You would be smart to do this section with day light! We have secured a whole new line up of cars, and the auto section will be much more involved in 2008.
